A Citizen’s Campaign for IFFEd
Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), committed to the implementation of right to education clearly articulated in Article 25 A of the Constitution and its provincial /area laws and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Education, seeks urgent action for adequate resources. Staggering statistics haunt us in Pakistan of 22.6 million children (5-16 years) not in schools, millions who are not persisting up to secondary education and millions who are not learning; this is an unacceptable reality in Pakistan and globally. The ambitions of a fundamental right must be realised; from early childhood education to secondary level, second chance programs, teacher preparation and higher education, embedded in gender equality, inclusion and innovations for the 21st century, backed by sufficient and imaginative resources. These resources must be mobilized both domestically within Pakistan and internationally with support of many partners and financing institutions.
There is now the opportunity to secure the resources necessary: The Education Commission Chaired by Mr. Gordon Brown (former Prime Minister UK), the Special Envoy to the UN Secretary General on Global Education along with front line leaders of the world, including country heads, politicians, multilateral and bilateral leaders, nobel prize winners, experts, industry and civil society champions are committed to securing additional financing. The International Finance Facility for Education (IFFEd) has been crafted by the Education Commission in consultation with many partners to bring value added combining domestic resources with international financing especially for low and low middle income countries, which could mobilise over $10bn globally to help make the right to education a reality.
We, the citizens of Pakistan pledge and call upon world leaders to fully support and fund the International Finance Facility for Education (IFFEd) so it can leverage billions of new and additional financing to address the global education crisis and get millions of children into school and achieve SDG 4 and 25 A.
